Commanding Officer
Captain Mark E. Brouker
Medical Service Corps, United States Navy

BIO:

Before reporting to Naval Hospital Bremerton as Commanding Officer, Captain Brouker was Executive Officer at Naval Hospital Rota, Spain, from June 2006 to July 2008. A native of Pittsfield, Mass., he was selected for commissioning in the Medical Service Corps in 1983 and after graduating from Officer Indoctrination School was assigned as a staff Pharmacy Officer to Naval Hospital, San Diego. While at that Command, Captain Brouker was assigned to the Rapid Deployment Medical Force. He reported to Branch Medical Clinic, Naval Air Station, Miramar, California in 1984 for duty as Head, Pharmacy Department. He transferred to Naval Hospital Subic Bay, Philippines in 1986 where he served as Head, Pharmacy Department. During that tour he served as Team Leader, Mobile Medical Augmentation Readiness Team 14 and led various training exercises in the jungle and on board warships. In 1989 he reported to the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) where he completed a one-year hospital pharmacy residency. His follow-on tour in 1990 at NNMC included service as Associate Director for Clinical Pharmacy Services. During that tour, he was deployed from August 1990 to March 1991 as Clinical Coordinator, Pharmacy Services onboard USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and completed Type Commanders Amphibious Training in Camp LeJeune, NC (acting Commanding Officer, B Company, 2nd Medical Battalion). He transferred to Naval Hospital Newport, RI, iin 1992 where he served as Head, Pharmacy

Department and Director Ancillary Services. During that tour, Captain Brouker deployed in 1994 as Head, Pharmacy Department on board USNS Comfort off the coast of Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy. Also during that tour, he attended the Naval War College, graduating in 1995, and participated in NORTHWESTPAC-94 and 95 war games.  From 1995 to 1998 Captain Brouker was in Duty Under Instruction at the University of Rhode Island. During that tour, Captain Brouker studied medical readiness onboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) for a 3 week at sea period and evaluated NATO medical logistic doctrine, along with European clinical pharmacy practices, while completing one semester of study at the University of Rennes in Rennes, France. He was subsequently assigned to the Department of Defense Pharmacoeconomic Center (component of Tricare Management Activity) in Fort Sam Houston, Texas in 1998 where he served as Deputy Director. Following that tour, he reported to Naval Hospital Jacksonville in 2001, serving as Head Pharmacy Department and as Director Ancillary Services of Fleet Hospital Jacksonville. In September 2002, Capt. Brouker helped lead Fleet Hospital Jacksonville through a successful operational readiness evaluation in Camp Pendleton, Calif. He reported to Naval Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn. as senior Medical Service Corps detailer in June 2003.

Capt. Brouker is a 1980 graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Brouker received his Master in Business Administration degree from National University in 1985 and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Rhode Island in 1997. He graduated from the Naval War College in 1995. He completed a residency in Hospital Pharmacy at the National Naval Medical Center 1990 and a post-doctoral fellowship in Pharmacoeconomics from University of Rhode Island in 1998. He is board certified as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a member of both the American Pharmaceutical Association and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Captain Brouker has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at both national and international conferences.

Captain Brouker has been married to the former Kristin L. Skalbeck since 1983. They are blessed with 3 children; daughters Shayna and Katherine, and a son, Jacob.
